As the pattern book aspect is key to the book's message we reassessed the commonly understood order for architects' drawings. Rather than displaying plans followed by sections followed by elevations, we decided that the elevations should come first (so that the reader can see what the house looks like), followed by the plans (so the reader can ascertain the scale and layout of the scheme) with the more technical sections appearing last. All drawings were shown at 1:200 scale for purposes of comparison. The front cover uses a grid of the generic brass numbers seen on domestic front doors composed in such a way as to give an oblique reference to Bingo from which the book's title is derived.
